Newly Approved Development Master Plan Enables Siem Reap to Build More Infrastructure

The Cambodian government has officially announced the implementation of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035. Through the master plan, the government will focus on the development of infrastructure to create well-connected means for the tourism sector.

The official launch ceremony was held on 20 October under the presidency of HE Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the National Committee for Tourism Development.

On the occasion, HE Pornmoniroth urged the relevant ministries and institutions as well as the private sector to jointly strengthen the development of Siem Reap to attract more domestic and international tourists.

The short-term prioritised missions include the completion of the 38-road project, and the acceleration of the Chong Khneas port development, preparing Siem Reap for the post-COVID-19 era.

The government has estimated that by 2035, international tourists will increase by 7.5 million and domestic tourists by 10.9 million, generating about US$5.9 billion in revenue and about 940,000 direct jobs.
