The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction held a workshop meeting on 24 June to launch the Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development, known as LASED III.

The ministry expects that over 15,000 poor families will receive decent land plots to reside on and grow crops after the project completion in 2026.

The workshop was attended by MLMUPC Minister HE Chea Sophara; Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries HE Veng Sakhon; and the World Bank Country Director for Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar Mariam J. Sherman; plus 550 stakeholders.

The Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development (LASED) is a program co-organised by the World Bank and the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, aiming to gift land to poor and indigenous people in Cambodia.

Since the project began in 2008, at least 30,000 hectares of land have been provided to more than 50,000 poor families across the kingdom.(read more)

For LASED-III, the project is being implemented with a total budget of US$107 million, of which US$93 million is a loan from the World Bank and another US$14 million is a contribution from the Cambodian government.
