Over 200 Development Projects Included in Kep Development Master Plan

Over 200 development projects and four major tourism development destinations have been included in the draft of Kep Tourism Master Plan, according to the Ministry of Tourism on 14 January.

The purpose of the master plan is to transform Kep into a “high-end luxury tourism destination”, and also to help boost Kep’s tourism potential after the COVID-19 crisis.

According to Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee HE Ny Phally, nine core strategies are written in the master plan, which breaks down into 49 detailed strategies, 98 activities, and 251 projects.

The committee has also identified four major tourism development poles where those aforementioned projects will be implemented in, which include the current Kep city, Angkol area, Phnom Vor area and the off-shore islands area.

Meanwhile, according to the initial plan, those projects might include the establishment of Sre Ambel Museum, Kep and Angkol beaches improvement, creation of a new beach (from the east of the Crab Market to O’Krasa mangrove forest), among others.

The inter-ministerial also agreed to review the draft master plan once again in March 2021 before submitting it to the National Committee for Tourism Development.

Local real estate expert Sorn Seap also recently predicted that Kep and Kampot will soon unleash their potential and these two destinations are very ideal for resort investment in 2021 or after the COVID-10 crisis. (Read more)
