PATA Advocates for Tranquillity: Plans for a Meditation Centre Unveiled in Stung Popok, Koh Kong Province

In a groundbreaking move to promote ecotourism, religious tourism, and nature conservation, the Cambodia Asia Pacific Tourism Association (PATA) proposed the establishment of the Stung Popok Meditation Centre in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province. Highlighting the project’s potential to enrich local economies and lifestyles, Dr Thoun Sinan, Chairman of PATA, presented the initiative to HE Dr Eng Sophallet, Minister of Environment, on 12 February 2024.

This project aligns with the ministry’s strategies for enhancing community livelihoods through sustainable practices and natural resource conservation.

The meeting underscored the ministry’s encouragement for local communities to cultivate entrepreneurial spirits, bringing forth innovative, community-driven projects. According to HE Dr Eng Sophallet, fostering local entrepreneurship is key to creating unique and appealing community spaces, augmenting the beauty of Cambodia one region at a time. This initiative is expected to generate regular income for locals by offering various services such as eco-tourism, accommodation, and selling local products to tourists.

Further, the Green Leisure Target Project, as introduced by the ministry, aims to elevate standards of cleanliness and environmental purity across Cambodia. The minister emphasised the importance of presenting agricultural products to tourists at fair prices and standard quality, reflecting the intrinsic sincerity and integrity of the Cambodian community.

The minister added that the MoE is dedicated to achieving a clean Cambodia on multiple fronts—externally and internally. The focus extends to cleanliness in the surrounding environment, encompassing clean land, water, and air, with a primary emphasis on fostering community cleanliness.

Moreover, internal cleanliness is underscored, emphasising the importance of sincerity within the Cambodian community. This sincerity is exemplified through practices such as offering agricultural products to tourists at fair prices, and adhering to standard pricing guidelines. The aim is to instil a sense of honesty and integrity in local practices, contributing to a cleaner and more ethical society.
