Plan floated to establishing Sihanoukville as logistics centre

The Cambodian government plans to turn Sihanoukville town into one of the major logistics centres in the country, since Sihanoukville is a major centre for the transport of goods and products through its deep-sea port.

The development of Sihanoukville town as a logistics centre is aimed at ensuring sustainable economic, social and environmental development and ensuring the necessary infrastructure support to promote transport competition to be implemented through the public-private partnership.

The World Bank’s IFC is conducting the pre-feasibility study on the project’s development, which was revealed in a meeting on pre-feasibility study on the ‘Development of Sihanoukville as a Logistics Centre’ with IFC representatives held on 08 August 2019.

Speaking in the meeting, H.E Ms Koy Sodany, Secretary of State of Ministry of Public Works and Transport, urged the logistics committee and relevant parties to provide inputs to make the pre-feasibility study project successful.

The government is currently planning to develop four logistics centres, including Phnom Penh Logistics Centre, Sihanoukville Logistics Centre, Poipet Logistics Centre, and Bavet Logistics Center to promote competition and reduce transport costs.

In Phnom Penh, the feasibility study has been already completed, and it planned to be built near the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port.
