PM: Expenses on COVID-19 Now Equal to Constructing 10 Mekong River Bridges

The Cambodian government has revealed that expenditures in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic have reached millions of dollars or equivalent to the cost of construction of 10 Mekong River bridges.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said on Sunday that what Cambodia has spent so far is already over the cost of the construction of 10 major bridges.

“Some bridge constructions in Cambodia cost only US$50 million to U$60 million. However, we have thus far spent millions fighting against the COVID-19. This equals to at least 10 bridges, said PM Hun Sen.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister declared Cambodia is not bankrupt and can control the situation very well.

He added that during the first seven months of this year, Cambodia earned more than US$3 billion, of which US$1.7 billion was tax revenue and US$1.3 billion was customs revenue.

For the next five months, Cambodia also plans to generate an additional US$2 billion in revenue.
