PM Hun Sen shows interest in equipping nationwide roads with LEDs

Sihanoukville will soon be the most developed smart city in the kingdom after being equipped with smart light bulbs on the 34 renovated city roads on which construction began in November 2019.

Prime Minister Hun Sen made an inspection visit on the progress of the road construction projects in Sihanoukville on 01 June 2020.

“I can say that Sihanoukville will be the most developed smart city among the others. I just advised H.E Chea Sophara to sign a contract with Minebea Company to set up more than 5,000 light poles or smart light bulbs that I think it should be used all over the country in the future,” he said.

These smart light bulbs could not only provide more energy efficient electricity supply but also contribute to the city as a tourist attraction also.

He said that, “Sihanoukville’s roads alone can also attract local tourists to come and see the beauty of them. I also suggested H.E. Kouch Chamroeun to decorate the roads with street lights to set up the place as attractive tourist sites.”

Sihanoukville province has the highest economic potential in Cambodia with the recent construction of the 34 major roads and infrastructure projects in this province to connect the three main poles of Cambodia’s economy.

Notably, the 34 roads are some of the country’s largest and most important road infrastructure projects. Prime Minister Hun Sen called the project the “most sophisticated road construction project ever built in Cambodia.”

“We have the big highways, highways, and subways. But our subway is 12 metres which is even larger than the National Road 4. And our boulevards are 50 metres wide. So, our new road sare of a high standard,” said Prime Minister. (Read more)
