PM Hun Sen’s Resolute Stand: Combating Illegal Encroachment on Forest Land

In a powerful message that resonated across the nation, PM Hun Sen issued a stern warning against the illegal encroachment of forest land by influential individuals. The special address, spanning over four minutes, was delivered on the evening of June 5, 2023, sending a resolute message to those who dared to exploit Cambodia’s natural resources unlawfully.

Expressing deep concern over reports of unlawful activities by unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of the election season, the PM made it unequivocally clear that no leniency would be shown towards those who illegally encroached upon forest and state land. He emphasized the need to uphold the law and bring the masterminds behind these transgressions to justice, irrespective of any political connections or influence.

PM Hun Sen swiftly directed the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as well as the capital-provincial authorities to mobilize their forces promptly. The aim is to curb the activities of corrupt individuals who exploit the Government’s focus on organizing the elections and prevent any further encroachment on state forest land. The Government’s commitment to safeguarding Cambodia’s natural resources remains unwavering.

In a firm tone, the PM called upon wealthy and influential figures who may be associated with the perpetrators or who benefit from illegal logging to cease their involvement immediately. The Government stands resolute in its intolerance towards such unlawful practices and will take decisive action to curb any illicit activities.

In his closing appeal, PM Hun Sen appealed the people of Cambodia to uphold the law and respect the boundaries of state land, recognizing it as a precious national asset. By fostering a sense of collective responsibility, Cambodia can protect its rich biodiversity and ensure the sustainable management of its natural resources for future generations.
