Renovation on NR33 Connecting Kampot Town to Vietnam Border to Begin Soon

The renovation on NR33 connecting downtown Kampot to the Cambodia-Vietnam border is set to begin soon as the technical team is already on site inspecting the road condition.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) HE Pal Chandara said yesterday that the technical inspection is being done after the preliminary study has been completed recently.

He added that in addition to inspecting the road, the team also examined the possibility of building a bridge across the road in front of Kep Provincial University as well, which is outside the project contract.

The preliminary study for the NR33 renovation project has been completed and is currently being reviewed by the relevant ministries, according to Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesman HE Vasim Sorya.

He added the China Road & Bridge Corporation is the firm obtaining the right to conduct the study, while Sawac Consultants (Cambodia) Co Ltd is the consultant for the project.

As planned, this NR33 improvement project is 52km long, starting from the NR3 junction nearby the Kampot market (148km+100) to the Cambodia-Vietnam border gate (Lok or Prek Chak).

The budget to build road has yet to reveal, but according to PM Samdech Hun Sen in October last year, this project will be implemented using a Chinese loan along with two other routes in Kampot including NR31 and NR41. (Read more)
