SHV Port Achieves Record 1 Million TEUs, Cementing Its Role as a Regional Trade Hub

Sihanoukville Port has reported a record-breaking 1 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of container traffic in 2024, reflecting an impressive 29% increase compared to the previous year. This milestone underscores the port’s strategic importance in driving Cambodia’s trade and logistics ambitions, as announced on the official website of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on 21 December 2024.

This surge in container traffic highlights the growing influence of Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia’s only deep-sea port, as a regional logistics hub. The facility is critical in facilitating the nation’s expanding trade activities and strengthening international relationships. The increase is attributed to ongoing infrastructure improvements and a supportive investment climate, significantly enhancing operational capacity.

The Director General of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port emphasized the collaborative efforts driving this growth. “Our achievements reflect the concerted efforts to improve infrastructure and promote Cambodia as a competitive player in the global market,” he stated.

As Cambodia charts its economic future, Sihanoukville Port stands out as a cornerstone of its ambitions to integrate more deeply into the global trade ecosystem. The port’s record-breaking year is a testament to the country’s potential to thrive as a key player in Southeast Asia’s economic landscape.
