Six Regions in Mondulkiri Selected for Tourism Masterplan Development

The Cambodian government has chosen six regions in Mondulkiri province for a tourism development masterplan, with the aim of turning Mondulkiri into the fourth kingdom’s fourth economic pole.

According to an official meeting regarding the draft masterplan for tourism development of Mondulkiri Province (2021-2030) on 28 June, those six regions are:

1. The 5 wildlife sanctuaries (Phnum Prech, Nam Lyr, Lumphat, Kaev Seima and Srepok wildlife sanctuary), where the government allows only environmentally friendly tourism investment projects

2. Bou Sra -Dak Dam area which is suitable for the development of ecotourism along with indigenous cultural tourism

3. Sen Monourom city which the government has designated as a multi-purpose tourism area

4. Ou Reang area situated nearby the Mondulkiri Airport Development Project can be developed as a satellite city connected with Sen Monorom City (Read more)

5. Kaoh Nheaek area, which the government reserves for future tourism development given its extensive wildlife sanctuary

6. Integrated tourist areas along the border

With the implementation of this new tourism master plan, Mondulkiri province is expected to attract 900,000 international tourists and approximately 2 million domestic tourists by 2035, which will help create over 80,000 jobs for locals.

With this number, the province is also expected to earn direct income from tourism of approximately US$500 million and indirect income of about US$1 billion.
According to the meeting, the draft master plan will soon be submitted to the government for review and approval.
