Spokesperson: Ground Broken on National Road No. 2 Soon

After many years of waiting, the expansion of National Road No. 2 financed the South Korean government, is scheduled to break ground soon, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

Speaking by phone with Construction & Property Magazine on 24 April 2019, H.E Vasim Sorya, spokesperson for MPWT said that the initial procedures for the project are completed with ground breaking to begin soon.

“From what I know, we already sent the information to Korea, but the thing is, I don’t have the information if Korea has sent back the information yet,” he said.

“The bidding for the contractor was done two to three months ago, the procedures are done, we’re just waiting for Korea’s decision. It might be [Korea informed] soon, and if so [decision has been made], we will announce the groundbreaking immediately,” he added.

Using the loan from the Export-Import Bank of Korea, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will transform National Road No.2 to an AC-type road stretching 57 kilometres long and 13 metres wide.

Regarding the budget package, the government of Korea, in late 2018, decided to add additional loans to the US$13 million loan that it provided four years earlier for the National Road No. 2 project. (Read more)
