Siem Reap Authority to Strengthen Waste Management

The Siem Reap Provincial Administration is improving solid waste management in the city, aiming to make Siem Reap the most famous tourist city in the world. 

According to a planning workshop on 19 January, the waste management project is co-sponsored by the German Ministry of Environment and the German Operations Agency (GIZ), which is implemented in four target countries in ASEAN countries: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. 

Over a period of four years, the project will cost approximately US$6.5 million. 

The objectives of the project are to alleviate pressure on the existing public system, reduce the impact on the environment, incorporate waste management into national laws and strategies, and ensure the attractiveness of the tourism sector.
