Advancing Access to Clean Water: Steung Treng Water Treatment Plant Unveiled

In a significant stride towards enhancing water infrastructure, the inauguration of the Steung Treng Water Treatment Plant, funded through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), marks a pivotal moment.

Located in Sangkat Preah Bat, Stung Treng City, the state-of-the-art facility boasts a remarkable capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day, surpassing the city’s current production capacity of 8,000 cubic meters per day. The plant not only caters to the water needs of the city but also extends its services to Sesan and Thala Parivat districts. Moreover, future plans include expanding distribution to Siem Reap. During the momentous inauguration ceremony on 24th May 2023, HE Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, emphasized the necessity of additional investment, approximately $4 million, to provide clean water to Siem Bok district. In collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), negotiations for the 3,232 projects are underway, aiming to provide clean water access to an additional 1,700 households.

Presently, the Water Supply Authority caters to the water demands of three districts: Steung Treng, Sesan, and Thala Parivat. With a raw water pumping station capacity of 13,500 cubic meters per day and a water treatment plant capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day, the authority remains committed to expanding its services and ensuring clean water accessibility for communities.

The launch of the Steung Treng Water Treatment Plant signifies a significant milestone in Cambodia’s journey towards improved water infrastructure and underscores the nation’s dedication to providing its citizens with access to clean and safe water resources.
