Unveiling the Splendour: Kesor Kol Conservation Centre at Phnom Kulen Inaugurated

The 10-hectare Kesor Kol Guest House and infrastructure in Preah Jayavarman Phnom Kulen National Park have been officially inaugurated. The ceremonial inauguration, held on 2 August 2023, was presided over by HE Say Sam Al, Minister of Environment, signalling a resounding dedication to fostering sustainable conservation and ecological research.

Nestled across a sprawling expanse of 10 hectares, the Kesor Kol Guest House and infrastructure complex stand as a testament to Cambodia’s conscientious stewardship of its cherished natural heritage.

According to HE Sam Al, this park accentuates the strategic importance of orchestrating well-planned infrastructure developments within the national park. Designed to enhance the effectiveness of resource management, protection, and conservation, the integrated facilities including parks, lodges, polling stations, waterways, toilets, and community markets serve as pivotal cogs in promoting sustainable biodiversity.

Minister Say Sam Al affirmed that the meticulously planned infrastructure, culminating in the Kesor Kol Conservation Centre, transcends mere construction; it is a harmonious fusion of purpose and vision. The strategic positioning of this central hub facilitates seamless transportation and connectivity between Svay Leu district, Banteay Srei district, and Siem Reap provincial town, effectively easing traveller access to the revered Preah Jayavarman National Park.

The Kesor Kol Conservation Centre, spanning three interconnected edifices, epitomises architectural excellence, rendering a 10-hectare sanctuary of knowledge, preservation, and environmental education,  located in Srah Khvav village, Tbeng commune, Banteay Srei district (opposite Kesor Kol Park). The building was constructed on 15 August 2022, and completed on 10 May 2023.

As part of this visionary endeavour, the Ministry of Environment has pioneered a gamut of complementary projects within the Kesor Kol Research and Conservation Centre From the Kesor Kol Seed Garden to the enchanting Butterfly Garden, Natural Vegetable Garden, Vanilla Garden, Natural Vegetable Garden, Coffee Shop, Natural Products Store, Natural Canal, 33KW Solar Installation and even a Kulen pig farm.

These facets weave together an enchanting tapestry that seamlessly blends scientific research, conservation, and immersive tourism. (Read more)
