Siem Reap Tourism Development Plan Receives Government Recommendations for Effective Implementation

HE Thong Khon, Senior Minister overseeing Special Mission and Chair of the Siem Reap-Angkor Tourism Management and Development Commission (STMDC), outlined four key recommendations to enhance the implementation of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan, as advised by the Cambodian government.

During the inaugural meeting of the Siem Reap-Angkor Tourism Management and Development Committee for the 7th legislative term on 25 April, the minister underscored the importance of these recommendations for achieving tangible results in tourism development.

In his address, HE Thong Khon emphasised the following four points to bolster the execution of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035:

  1. Enhancing the organisational structure in alignment with Sub-Decree No. 51 and facilitating the establishment of Sub-DMOs (Destination Management Organizations) for six priority areas, with a particular focus on Phnom Kulen National Park and Tonle Sap Lake area.
  2. Preparation, updating, and dissemination of the action plan for the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan 2024-2035, prioritising complementary areas of development.
  3. Improving the quality of tourism services and products, fostering human capital development within the tourism industry, and promoting initiatives such as the “Clean City, Clean Resort, Good Service, Good Hospitality” campaign.
  4. Conducting comprehensive training sessions on the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035 for all stakeholders, coordinated by the Secretariat.

The official launch of the Siem Reap Provincial Development Master Plan on 20 October 2021 marked a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to position Siem Reap as a premier tourist destination in Cambodia and attract a higher influx of visitors.

With ambitious goals set forth in the master plan, the government envisions a substantial boost to Siem Reap’s economy, aiming to generate nearly US$6 billion and create around 940,000 jobs in the tourism sector.
