The government wants to see an MoU on the railway expansion project  before the end of this year

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has asked the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Royal Railway of Cambodia to negotiate to reach a memorandum of understanding on the railway expansion project by the end of this year.

Speaking at the celebration ceremony of the 20th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO)on October 14, Samdech Thipadei confirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia is prioritising the development of highway infrastructure systems and railways to serve the transportation sector.

“I have already given principles to the relevant ministries and company to negotiate on the railway expansion project to reach a memorandum of understanding by the end of this year because the railway issue has been unsolved for years. we need to upgrade,” he said.

The Prime Minister also warned to withdraw this project license from the private sector if negotiations to sign a memorandum of understanding by the end of this year are not successful.

Royal Railway of Cambodia currently has an investment concession to manage the railway system in Cambodia, which has two lines from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and from Phnom Penh to Poipet.
