Gov’t Allocates 6,000 ha of Social Land Concessions in Mondulkiri Province, Bringing New Hope to Local Communities

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, in collaboration with the Mondulkiri Provincial Authority, has designated 6,000 hectares of land as a dedicated area for land identification, classification, and registration in Rayor and Soksan communes of Koh Nhek district, Mondulkiri Province.

This landmark zoning announcement, made on 28 June 2023, marks a crucial milestone in the implementation of the Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development Phase III (LASED III) project. Through this initiative, the government aims to address land-related challenges and provide equitable access to secure land tenure, essential infrastructure, and vital agricultural and social services for vulnerable communities.

Rayor and Soksan communes, which will benefit from the social land concession program, are home to approximately 700 families who currently lack land ownership, as well as over 600 families with less than 0.5 hectares of land. The allocation of these social land concessions seeks to empower these households, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive and build a better future.

The LASED III project has received funding from World Bank, further highlighting the international community’s commitment to supporting inclusive development in Cambodia. The World Bank has allocated a generous sum of $93 million for the implementation of the LASED III project, aimed at enhancing land security, improving land tenure, and enhancing access to critical infrastructure and essential services for landless individuals and indigenous communities across the country.
