The Gov’t allocated 6,234 hectares of land in Botum Sakor National Park for private investment

The Cambodian Government has greenlit the allocation of a substantial 6,234-hectare area within the pristine Botum Sakor National Park, situated in Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province. The designated land is set to be leased to Koh Kong Rubber Plantation for private investment, marking a strategic move aimed at bolstering economic growth. According to the official Sub-Decree No. 27, dated January 11, 2023, this initiative is part of the government’s sustainable land use policy, paving the way for targeted private investment within the country’s natural reserves.

Under the provisions of the Sub-Decree, the allocated land will be classified as a sustainable use area, effectively transforming it from state public property to state private property eligible for lease to reputable companies for investment purposes. The Ministry of Environment will play a key role in overseeing the lease process, ensuring adherence to sustainable practices and responsible environmental management.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Environment will be entrusted with the management of the state property. Additionally, relevant ministries, institutions, and sub-national administrations will also be involved, ensuring full compliance with the Royal Government’s principles and the country’s legal framework.

The move to allocate this prime land for private investment reflects the government’s commitment to fostering economic development while balancing environmental preservation. As Cambodia continues to attract foreign investors seeking opportunities in various sectors, this strategic decision could serve as a catalyst for further investment and growth.
