Gov’t Leases 489 Hectares in Koh Rong to Private Company for Sustainable Development

The Cambodian government has earmarked a 489-hectare area within Koh Rong National Park for development by Emario Shonan Marine Corporation and U. Property Management. This progressive initiative, as outlined in Sub-Decree No. 69 dated 31 March 2023, signifies the nation’s commitment to responsible land utilisation in Koh Rong Samloem village, Sangkat Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Rong City, Sihanoukville province.

This allocation involves the concession of privately registered state land through the Ministry of Environment, facilitating the development endeavours of these esteemed companies. In an equally impactful development, the government has granted ownership of 242 hectares, along with an 81-acre community area within Koh Rong Marine National Park, to these companies.

This collaborative effort, in exchange for direct investments in island infrastructure, encompasses vital projects including the construction of concrete roads, water supply systems, electricity infrastructure, landfills, schools, and health centres. This multifaceted approach ensures sustainable growth while bolstering the quality of life for the local community.

Furthermore, Sub-Decree No. 69 defines the community area of Koh Rong Marine National Park, spanning 328 hectares and 54 acres. Situated in Koh Rong Samloem village, Sangkat Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Rong city, Sihanoukville province, this region includes 326 hectares and 19 acres allotted to 284 families that have long occupied and enjoyed this land. An additional two hectares and 35 acres remain designated as state reserve land, serving as a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to preserving its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
