Progress Update: Rehabilitation of NR No. 48 from Sre Ambel to Koh Kong Reaches 31%

The highly anticipated rehabilitation project of NR No. 48, stretching 148 kilometers from the Sre Ambel Road intersection on NR No. 4 to Khemarak Phoumin City in Koh Kong Province, has achieved a significant milestone, with completion reaching 31% as of 22nd June 2023.

During a site inspection led by HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, alongside the construction companies ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture and KCI & KECC Joint Venture, it was confirmed that progress, although slightly behind schedule, has been steady. Factors contributing to the slight delay include variations in the contract scope, geographical considerations, and early onset of the rainy season.

To expedite the project, the construction company has implemented three key priority plans. Firstly, the workforce has been increased from 3 to 8 teams, ensuring simultaneous progress in multiple sections. Secondly, the focus has shifted to constructing bridge components during periods of inclement weather when road foundation works are disrupted. Lastly, stockpiling essential materials for the upcoming dry season, particularly for the rubber layer paving, which accounts for 30% of the overall project.

Spanning a total distance of 148 km, the NR No. 48 construction project, initiated on 3rd January 2022 with an allocated budget of approximately $78 million, aims to enhance the road’s quality and capacity, facilitating smoother and safer transportation throughout the province. This significant infrastructure endeavor is poised to bring about improved connectivity, fostering economic growth and prosperity for both local communities and the province as a whole.
