Two new Chinese firms plan to build electronic manufacturing factories in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ), despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

According to a post on the Phnom Penh SEZ Facebook page in mid-August, the pandemic has affected various sectors and in particular the supply chain in manufacturing companies. Businesses in the PPEZ have also been affected. However, two large firms have recently decided to invest in the PPSEZ.

SEIKAWA (Cambodia) Technology Co., Ltd, a manufacturer of plastic parts for electrical and electronic devices, and WCFO (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of fiber optic devices exporting to Japan and the United States both plan to establish factories in the PPSEZ.

“This company is also looking at Cambodia as a new production base due to the fact that the labour is young, trainable and affordable, and the preferential treatment to Cambodia from developed countries, especially in the situation of the ongoing US-China trade issue,” read the post.

According to the Phnom Penh Post, the PPSEZ received over US$1 billion in trade volume and exported over US$2 billion worth of goods last year.
