UK-based hotel chain to open in Cambodia

Yoo Hotels and Resorts based in the United Kingdom has revealed plans to open a hotel chain in Cambodia in response to rising tourist numbers in the country.

Entitled the ‘Yoo2 Lifestyle Brand’ project, the British Yoo Hotels and Resorts will expand branches in Southeast Asia in the next three to five years. The project will be the first of its kind in Cambodia, according to Hospitality Net.

The hotel chain is planning to open at least 20 hotels and resorts in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Clais Chenda, President of the Cambodia Hotel Association, said that the growth of foreign tourists entering Cambodia has pushed more investment into accommodation.

While tourism is growing, infrastructure, including hotels, and restaurants, are still limited which has not yet responded to real demand of growing number of foreign tourists, Ms Chenda said.

“We see that tourism growth continues to increase, but looking at infrastructure, such as accommodation, restaurant and new tourism products, it has not yet responded, so we need to do more and need more investment,” she said.

“We need more international standards to meet the needs of tourists, particularly when 8 to 10 million foreign tourists are expected to enter Cambodia in the future, so we may be likely to face a shortage in such accommodation if new investment has not been made.”

Yoo Hotels and Resorts is one of the world’s leading hoteliers. It currently has branches in 32 countries, including Brazil, India, Vietnam, Russia, the United States, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Thailand and Costa Rica.
