Phnom Penh Municipality has agreed on the construction of underpass proposed by Borey Peng Hout, a real estate developer, along the National Road No.1 of Boeng Chhuk village, Nirouth commune, Chbar Ampov district.

Meat Measpheakdey, spokesman at Phnom Penh Municipality, said that the project was given the green light to the proposal by the company to start conducting a feasibility study for the underpass project.

“We had a meeting on checking the possibility of the project to build a tunnel across National Road No.1, but in detail, I am still asking a working group to go into details of the project,” Mr Meat said.

He did not, however, unveil the timeframe for the feasibility study to start.

The underpass project was presented at a meeting held on 02 April chaired by Phnom Penh governor H.E Khoung Sreng. The meeting focused on requesting an in-principle agreement from Phnom Penh Municipality to build a tunnel linking PH Eco Mall to National Road No.1.

Mr Sorn Seap, founder and CEO of Key Real Estate, applauded the proposal, saying this project is considered as corporate social responsibility (CSR) by investors, particularly by building an underpass is to ease traffic congestion due to the location of the fast-developing project which has led to busy traffic.

“It is responsible and contributes to the society in the real estate sector and in the infrastructure sector. Moreover, if an investor waits for the government, it is also difficult because it is the investor’s interests,” Mr Seap said. “So, the investor proposing the project benefits the investors’ own interests and contributes to developing infrastructure in the society.”
