Cambodia Sees 60% Surge in Agricultural Exports in First Half of 2024

In the first six months of 2024, Cambodia exported over 6 million tons of agricultural products, marking a nearly 60% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to a recent report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

This significant growth reflects an unprecedented increase in agricultural exports over the last five years, with Cambodia reaching 77 target markets worldwide.

The Ministry’s report highlights that 94% of Cambodia’s agricultural exports were directed to major markets, including China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Key exports to China include bananas, rice, cassava, mango, and lentils, while Vietnam and Thailand primarily import cashew, cassava, and fresh mango. Other emerging agricultural products in the market include fresh mango, turmeric, corn, fresh lentils, and pepper.

Raw cashew nuts alone accounted for over US$800 million, constituting about a third of Cambodia’s total agricultural exports. Additionally, the value of non-rice agricultural exports exceeded US$1.8 billion, with rice exports contributing more than US$400 million and rice alone exceeding US$200 million.

This growth in agricultural exports not only showcases Cambodia’s expanding agricultural sector but also underscores the country’s increasing influence in the global market.
