First Chinese ‘Electric Flying Car’ Takes Off in Dubai

An “electric flying car” built by Chinese firm Xpeng Inc took off for the first time in the United Arab Emirates on 11 October with the plan to expand the product to international markets.

According to Reuters, the flying car is called X2, which is a two-seater electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. X2 is lifted by eight propellers – two at each corner of the vehicle.

The appearance in the public for the first time in Dubai was a 90-second test flight, but it is an “important base for the next generation of flying cars.”

“We are making step-by-step (moves) to the international market,” said Minguan Qiu, general manager of Xpeng Aeroht.

“First we selected Dubai city because Dubai is the most innovative city in the world,” he added.
