France Plans to Establish Modern University Hospital in Cambodia

In a significant move to bolster healthcare in Cambodia, the French government has announced plans to establish a modern Cambodian French university hospital. This initiative is currently under feasibility study in collaboration with the Cambodian Ministry of Health.

The announcement came following a tripartite meeting held on June 24, 2025, between officials from the Ministry of Health, the French Embassy in Cambodia, and representatives from the Paris University Hospitals Network. The French Ministry of Economy has provided funding to assess the viability of this ambitious project.

Emmanuel LY-BATALLAN, Head of the Economic Section at the French Embassy, emphasized that this hospital initiative symbolizes the enduring friendship between Cambodia and France. He reiterated that the project reflects France’s commitment to enhancing the resilience of the Cambodian health sector. The findings from the feasibility study are poised to be presented at the upcoming tripartite meeting scheduled for late July 2025.

His Excellency Koy Vanny, Secretary of State for Health, expressed strong support for the establishment of the Cambodia-France Friendship University Hospital. If successful, this would mark the establishment of the first university hospital in Cambodia with an international standard of care.

According to the French Ambassador to Cambodia, the proposed hospital aims to offer a comprehensive range of medical services, including advanced emergency care and specialized treatments such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, and organ transplantation, all compliant with Cambodian law.

This cooperation between Cambodia and France represents a pivotal step forward in strengthening health infrastructure and elevating healthcare services for the Cambodian population. As the project develops, it promises to significantly impact the quality and accessibility of medical care in the region.
