Germany Provides USD 3.12m for Cambodia’s Demining Operations in Two Provinces

Germany has granted USD 3.12 million to support Cambodia’s demining operations in Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey provinces. The funds, allocated through the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), were announced during a meeting on 4 September 2024 between HE Heng Ratana, head of CMAC, and Mr Hans Risser, NPA President in Cambodia.

The grant, covering a two-year period from September 2024 to August 2026, aims to enhance Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to clear mines and restore safe land for development.

Germany’s commitment to assisting Cambodia’s demining efforts reflects its dedication to humanitarian causes in the region. The Federal Republic of Germany’s decision to support CMAC with a total budget of USD 3,120,000 marks a significant step forward in mine clearance, according to Mr Hans Risser during the meeting.

Cambodia has a long history of receiving international assistance for mine clearance, with other organizations like the Halo Trust contributing significantly over the years.

Since 1991, Halo Trust has cleared over 511 square kilometres of mine-contaminated land in Cambodia, a testament to the ongoing global efforts to ensure a mine-free future for the country. (Read more)
