Gov’t approves draft law to transform Sihanoukville into “Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone”

The Royal Government of Cambodia has fully approved the draft “Land Management and Use Policy for the Development of Sihanoukville as a Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone 2022-2038”.

The draft law was approved at a cabinet meeting on January 13 chaired by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, the government’s spokesman HE Phay Siphan said.

The policy is aimed to direct and determine the land management and land use of Preah Sihanouk province in accordance with the socio-economic development model with the policies, laws, and regulations.

Under this policy, Sihanoukville province will become a multi-purpose special economic zone, the ASEAN Green City of modern, sustainable national development pole through the promotion of integration, smart city development, green development, the most beautiful beaches in the world, National Growth Center, International Finance Center, International Gateway, National Logistics Center and Industrial Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation.

This policy also aims to provide a framework and orientation for managing land use, land allocation, territorial development, and urbanization to make Sihanoukville attractive and highly innovative, aiming to contribute to the transformation of Cambodia into a high-middle-income country by 2023 and a high-income country by 2050.
