Gov’t Approves US$99m Loan to EDC to Level Off Electricity Price

In 2023, the Cambodian government will provide a loan in the amount of KHR406,500,000,000 (over US$99 million) to Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) to ensure the stability of electricity prices, according to the Law on Finance for Management 2023. 

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen also recently gave an order that EDC and the Ministry of Mines and Energy must keep the price of electricity stable regardless of external factors while also carefully monitoring the oil price. (Read more)

By 2023, the government plans to borrow 1.7 billion SDR from various partners to develop seven priority sectors. (Read more)

The government will also issue KHR813,000,000,000,000 worth of bonds, equivalent to more than US$198 million to pay the principal of the 2022 public securities issue. 

As of the third quarter of 2022, the government has collected US$10 million from the issuance of bonds, which allows the government to have more ability to raise funds to serve the development of the country. (Read more)
