Gov’t to Strengthen Household Electrical Security via Four New IEC standards

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) has adopted four International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards to strengthen household electrical security in Cambodia.

MISTI announced this new standard acceptance during the 23rd video call meeting of the National Standards Council (NSC) on 18 December.

MISTI Minister HE Cham Prasidh said that these new standards will help all inspection units to easily evaluate and inspect the quality and safety of household electrical appliances.

This will also help protect the general households and the environment from any possible risks posed by those electrical appliances.

Thus far, MISTI has yet to draft any regulations regarding household electrical security, as MISTI still needs further collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as well as the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, to avoid overlapping tasks.

To date, the National Standards Council, which has 12 technical committees, has decided to adopt international standards as national standards on a total of 969 standards.
