Gov’t to Upgrade An Ses to Be New International Checkpoint

The government of Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to upgrade the An Ses border, a vital trade border in the Choam Ksan District of Preah Vihear province, to be an international checkpoint in the near future. This was announced by Preah Vihear governor, HE Kim Rithy, during a press conference on the province’s achievements over the past five years on March 23, 2023.

Both countries have formally planned the upgrading and development of the An Ses checkpoint, and technical discussions are currently underway, particularly on the building of the bridge and road connecting the checkpoint.

“The Royal Governments of both countries have agreed on upgrading An Ses Border to be the international checkpoint. As for the technical work, the Border Relations Committee is discussing the possibility of opening this checkpoint as soon as possible. The Ministry of Interior of both countries has also agreed in principle to continue promoting this process. However, technical work is still carried on,” the governor emphasized.

Additionally, the Stueng Bat-Ban Nong Ean border checkpoint, which is part of the Cambodia-Thailand international checkpoint connection, is 82% complete as of March 2023 and is expected to be completed by May 2023.

Once upgraded, the An Ses border checkpoint will be a new international checkpoint connecting Cambodia and Thailand, promoting easier trade and tourism between the two countries. This new development will surely create more opportunities for business and tourism.
