Gov’t to turn mining land into community tourism destinations

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has urged relevant authorities to increase their efforts in mine-clearing activities, only to create a safe living environment for locals but also to transform those areas into community tourist sites.

PM Hun Sen said after the war ended, the government has actively been turning the minefields into development and cooperation areas. To date, only 10% of minefields remain unclear.

“The remaining 10% will be gone through the demining process soon and will be turned into more useful purposes such as eco-tourism destiation, community tourism destination, wildlife sanctuary, and so so,” said PM Hun Sen.

“Meanwhile, the private sector has also been contributing through charity to the demining campaigns, which make the process even faster,” he added.
