Her Majesty the Queen Mother Donates $20,000 to Support Cambodia’s Mine Clearance Efforts

In a significant gesture of kindness, Her Majesty the Queen Mother has donated $20,000 to the Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC) to aid its critical work in mine clearance. The donation was officially presented by His Majesty Kuy Sophal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace, during a recent ceremony with His Excellency Heng Ratana, the Royal Government Delegate in Charge of CMAC.

Highlighting the motivation behind this generous contribution, His Majesty Kuy Sophal remarked on Her Majesty’s deep concern for the welfare and challenges faced by mine clearance officers operating in Cambodia’s border regions. This act of compassion reflects Her Majesty’s commitment to improving the living conditions of those dedicated to ensuring public safety.

In response, His Excellency Heng Ratana expressed gratitude for the gift, underscoring its significance in supporting the Royal Government’s initiatives to enhance the capabilities of officers engaged in essential mine clearance activities.

The ceremony also coincided with an announcement from the Japanese government, which has pledged a substantial grant of 1.166 billion yen (approximately USD 7.8 million) to further bolster CMAC’s capacity and fund the purchase of advanced robotic demining machines. This collaborative effort marks a substantial step forward in Cambodia’s ongoing battle against landmines, ensuring safer communities for all. (Read more)
