Gov’t Spent​ US$1bn in Loans in First Nine Months of 2022; 54% for Infrastructure

During the first nine months of 2022, the Cambodian government withdrew approximately US$1 billion in cash from concessional loans, 54% of which was used in infrastructure development, according to the recent Cambodian Public Debt Statistics Bulletin. 

During this period, loans disbursed for infrastructure include US$254.19 million for transportation, US$75.20 million for energy, US$101.35 million for irrigation and water supply, US$51.69 million for clean water, and US$60.07 million for other infrastructure. 

Total cash withdrawals during this period increased by about 19% compared to the same period last year. 

The Royal Government also signed a new concessional loan agreement with development partners with a total value of US$1717.90 million during this period, an increase of about 294% compared to the same period last year. 

As of Q3 of 2022, Cambodia has a total public debt of US$9.47 billion,  99.89% of which is foreign debt.
