Toyota Urges Cambodia to Reduce Tariffs on Imported Hybrid Cars

Toyota has urged the Cambodian government to reduce tariffs on imported hybrid vehicles to help Cambodia achieve its carbon neutrality target by 2050, according to a meeting between the Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol and the representative of Toyota on 11 October.

Mr Ryoji Fujita, CEO of Toyota (Cambodia), said his proposal aims at encouraging Cambodians to use more hybrid vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions and contribute to the environment.

“This will help Cambodia achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050,” he added.

In response, HE Sun Chanthol said he will discuss this matter with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

He said that the effort to promote the use of electric vehicles throughout Cambodia also contributes to reducing pollution.

Toyota (Cambodia) has been the exclusive importer and distributor of all Toyota vehicles, spare parts, and services in Cambodia since 1993. The company recently received approval from the CDC to set up a Toyota assembly plant. (Read more)
