Japan Loans Usd86 Million to Improve Phnom Penh Electricity System

The government of Japan recently provided a USD86 million loan to Cambodia to upgrade and expand the Phnom Penh city electricity transmission and distribution system, according to an official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

This project will provide new substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, and related facilities, and augment the existing substations in the Phnom Penh metropolitan area to enhance the electric supply stability, thereby contributing to economic development in Cambodia.

The loan agreement signing ceremony was held on 8 April and presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen. The agreement was signed byH.E. Prak Sokhon, Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan H.E. Taro Kono during his official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia

Beside this loan, the agreement also includes another loan worth USD4.6 million to improve the economic and social development sector in Cambodia

This loan agreement shows the strong bilateral relationship between Japan and Cambodia and also marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation between Cambodia and Japan
