Japan Provides Fund to Conserve Bayon Temple

The Government of Japan has provided a grant of US$520,847 for the conservation and restoration of the Bayon temple while providing a total of over US$28 million under the JASA project since 1994 for similar purposes. 

During the 29th Plenary Meeting of the ICC-Angkor, there were also two MoUs signed been Japan and the Apsara Authority. 

The first MoU is the provision of funds for the conservation of the central tower of Bayon Temple. The second is the UNESCO-Japan Funds in Trust Project for the Preservation of Bayon Temple Phase 6. 

Some parts of the fund will also be used to purchase vehicles and heavy machinery for the stabilisation work of the central tower of Bayon temple. 

The project will continue to strengthen the capacity of Cambodian experts in the conservation and management of heritage to take complete control of the preservation and restoration of Bayon in the future.
