JICA Completes Draft law on Wastewater System in Cambodia

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has submitted a draft law on wastewater systems in Cambodia to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which the ministry considers a key input to this work.

The handover ceremony took place on 16 May between HE Pal Chandara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and Ms. Miyahara Al, Senior Representative of JICA Cambodia.

Speaking at the event, HE Pal Chandara said that Japan has a lot of experience and is a leader in the region on effective and sustainable management of waste and wastewater.

“JICA has provided technical assistance in reviewing, providing good input, comments, and recommendations, and has further improved the initial draft of the ministry’s wastewater law, through which the project will strengthen the capacity to manage wastewater and sewer systems to the Phnom Penh administration and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

He said the ministry will submit the draft law to the inter-ministerial committee before submitting it to the Council of Ministers for review and approval.
