Kampong Thom to Launch Large Scale Agro Industrial Park to Transform Regional Economy

Provincial administration and Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ sign agreement to study 300 hectare processing hub for diverse agricultural goods

The agricultural landscape of Kampong Thom province is set for a historic modernization as provincial authorities and the private sector formalize plans for a sprawling 300 hectare agro industrial park. According to the Kampong Thom Provincial Administration Facebook page, on January 7, 2026, the Kampong Thom Provincial Administration officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the project. This initiative marks a pivotal step in the government’s strategy to move beyond raw commodity exports and establish a robust domestic processing industry that adds value to local produce.

The signing ceremony, held at the Kampong Thom Provincial Hall, was presided over by Governor Nuon Pharat and Uematsu Hiroshi, CEO of Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. Governor Pharat emphasized that the new park is designed as a companion to the major Cashew Nut Processing Industrial Park already being developed in the province. While the latter focuses specifically on cashews, this new facility will broaden the provincial industrial scope by focusing on the processing of other vital commodities such as rice, rubber, and cassava.

Strategic economic goals under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s vision drive the project, which aims to diversify the local economy and create thousands of jobs for residents. By processing agricultural goods locally before they reach international markets, Cambodia intends to capture a higher percentage of the value chain, which has traditionally been lost to neighboring countries with more advanced processing capabilities. The feasibility study will evaluate the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of the site to ensure the development is both viable and sustainable.

The choice of Kampong Thom as a hub is no coincidence, as the province is a leading producer of cashews and other crops, contributing approximately 25 percent of the nation’s total cashew output. Investors in the park are expected to benefit from a suite of government incentives, including streamlined customs procedures, tax benefits, and reduced costs for water and electricity. As Cambodia works toward its goal of becoming a high income nation, projects like this agro industrial park serve as essential engines for regional growth and long term economic resilience.
