Kampot City to become tourism and agricultural product processing hub

The government has identified Kampot city as one of the most important tourist destinations and an agricultural product collection hub for exports to international markets, while the physical infrastructure in the coastal city remains under construction and development.

According to the Urban Planning 2030 plan for Kampot city, the government aims to develop Kampot town to be a ‘green pearl, natural beaches, culture and commerce through the development of the nature beaches to become one of the the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Through this urbanisation vision, Kampot city will develop into a centre for the processing of agricultural products, industry, producing agricultural products to international markets, and a modern city with urban infrastructure.

In addition to potential crops, potential pepper and durian and tourism, infrastructure, roads, railways and sea ports are essential infrastructure components for Kampot city and Kampot provinces in general.

Chem Pha, deputy governor of Kampot city, said that it is because of the province’s potential tourism, the waterfalls, nature reserve, Bokor Mountain, Eco-tourism, the plantations of the potential crops and the heritage city.

“Based on the current growth in the city and the province, especially the tourism sector, preparing for development is necessary to respond to the growth of both tourism and agriculture sector development.”

The growth of tourism has made Kampot city a new destination for investment after Sihanoukville province in term of investment in commercial buildings, hotels, restaurants, and real estate.

Kampot city in Kampot province is in the southwest of Cambodia and is a member of the world’s most beautiful beaches club. It is one the most popular tourist destinations for its culture, history and nature.

Statistics from the Kampot Provincial Tourism Department shows that 467,903 tourists visited Kampot in the first quarter of 2019, up by 4.4%. Of these there were 57,106 foreign tourists.
