Kampot International Tourism Seaport Construction Completed by End of 2019

Construction on the Kampot International Tourism Seaport is now about 25% complete with work on the facility expected to finish before end of 2019.

The plan is for the seaport to be complete in time for the 8th Sea Festival, the annual tourism event scheduled to be held in Kampot province in December this year.

Soy Sinol, director of the Kampot Provincial Tourism Department, said the seaport will play an important role in attracting tourists from Thailand and Vietnam via cruise ships to dock in the province.

“Based on inspection, the construction process is running as planned and now the construction is about 25% complete,” Mr Sinol told Construction & Property Magazine.

The seaport will allow cruise ships carrying tourists from ports in Sihanoukville, Thailand, and Vietnam to anchor at the facility.

The seaport construction is a project utlising a loan of US$18 million from the Asia Development Bank.

Located in Chhuk district, the seaport is 300 metres in length and is capable of docking cruise ships with 200 to 300 passengers on board.

Mr Sinol expects that the operation of the Kampot International Tourism Seaport will boost tourism development and attract investment to make the province become a tourism hub and an attractive destination for investment after the coastal Preah Sihanoukville province.

H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, in a meeting on Monday with local officials in Kampot province, urged for the completion of the port construction before end of 2019 when the province will host annual Sea Festival.
