Koh Kong Provincial Authorities Take Major Steps Toward Sustainable Waste Management

In a significant move to enhance environmental management, the Koh Kong Provincial Authorities have announced plans to develop over 90 hectares of land into a standardized garbage and solid waste disposal site. Governor Lok Chumteav Mithona Phu Thong highlighted this initiative during a press briefing following the environmental promotion program “Cultivating Clean and Green Ideas in Communities” held in Khemarak Phumin Town.

Governor Phuthong emphasized the provincial administration’s commitment to improving waste management practices and promoting public hygiene. “We are focused on building a proper garbage disposal site that adheres to technical standards, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for our residents,” she stated.

Currently, the province operates a landfill site that does not meet established standards, prompting officials to seek approval from the Ministry of Environment for a new, compliant facility. This proactive approach demonstrates the administration’s dedication to responsible waste management.

In a related development, Governor Phuthong noted that residents of Khemarak Phumin City have shown increased awareness regarding littering and the use of plastic waste. Local authorities have engaged in extensive outreach, educating the community about the environmental, economic, and livelihood consequences of improper waste disposal. As a result, there has been a noticeable shift in attitudes, with many residents taking steps to reduce plastic bag usage.
