KOICA Invests USD 7 Million to Enhance Ratanakiri Provincial Referral Hospital Capacity

In a significant development for the health sector in Ratanakiri province, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has unveiled a USD 7 million investment plan to bolster the capacity of the Ratanakiri Provincial Referral Hospital. This initiative, titled “Strengthening the Comprehensive Public Health System in Ratanakiri Province,” was officially launched during a signing ceremony on 7 April 2025, attended by HE Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and Ms. Moonjung Choi, KOICA Country Director for Cambodia.
During the ceremony, Ms. Choi emphasised that the project seeks to enhance both the availability and quality of healthcare services in the region. “Our goal is to ensure that the local public health system, including provincial referral hospitals, operates more efficiently,” she stated. The funding will be allocated from 2025 to 2030 as part of a grant aid framework agreement between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the Republic of Korea, totalling approximately KRW 9.660 million, equivalent to around USD 7 million.
Minister Chheang Ra underscored the significance of this investment, noting that it will contribute to infrastructure development and play a crucial role in strengthening human resources within Cambodia’s healthcare sector. This partnership reflects a mutual commitment to improving health outcomes and fostering a more robust public health system in Cambodia, benefiting the local communities and enhancing the quality of care available to residents.
The initiative marks a proactive step toward ensuring that healthcare services in Ratanakiri province meet the needs of its population, paving the way for a healthier future.
