Ministry of Industry announces water supply project worth nearly USD 185 million in Cambodia

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation has announced a five-year, USD 184.9 million water supply and sanitation promotion project in Cambodia. The project aims to expand water supply and sanitation services in the country to meet the growing demand and accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development goals related to clean water and sanitation by 2030.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, along with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. It will receive USD163 million in concessional financing from the World Bank, with the government contributing USD4.3 million and the private sector investing about USD17.6 million.

The project’s first component will focus on building a new water supply system for the Water Supply Authority in Sen Monorom, Pursat, Battambang, and Phnom Proek district of Battambang province, expanding the water supply service in those areas. Additionally, private water operators in Pursat and Battambang provinces will receive technical and financial assistance from the project.

Lastly, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation is working with the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, development partners, and water operators to address water resource loss caused by climate change. They are also collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to minimize the impact of infrastructure projects on clean water networks.
