MOI Requests ADB to Build New Water Treatment Plants in Rural Areas

The Minister of Industry has requested the ADB to help build new water treatment plants to supply clean water to people living in rural areas.

According to the meeting on 7 September 2022, the proposal was made by HE Cham Prasidh, Minister of Industry at a meeting to review the progress of ADB projects.

The request to build small water treatment plants is for people living in rural or remote areas who lack water sources,” said HE Cham Prasidh.

He also requested ADB to help provide private investment loans for connecting water supply in high-demand provinces such as Kampot and some districts in Sihanoukville.

In response, Jyotsana Varma, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Cambodia, expressed support and vowed to continue cooperation with the government in broadening the water system.

According to the Ministry of Industry, ADB has provided many financing projects for the development of water and sanitation in Cambodia since 2014 to several target provinces, including Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Pursat, and Kampot. Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Stung Treng provinces.
