Mondulkiri Provincial Authority Halts Sale and Purchase of Community Land in Target Village

The Mondulkiri Provincial Authority has ordered the immediate cessation of community land purchase and sale in Polu village, Busra commune, Pichreada district, Mondulkiri province, according to the letter dated 14 March 2023. The area is the target village for the registration of collective land of the Pnong community, and the provincial authorities have taken measures to prevent all activities encroaching on illegal land occupation.

In this letter, Mondulkiri Provincial Authority has introduced and taken the following measures:

  • Prevent all activities encroaching on illegal land occupation.
  • The suspension of certification of documents related to the transfer of rights through the sale, sale and mortgage of land in the upper villages and neighbouring areas bordering each other has also been implemented.

Additionally, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction has ordered the immediate cessation of the sale or transfer of land of indigenous communities that have already been registered as illegal. In contrast, the relevant transfer documents are considered invalid. (Read more)

Citizens have the same rights and protections as private property but do not have the right to assign any part of the state’s public property to any individual or group, as stated in the land law of the area. (Read more)

This move aims to protect the rights of indigenous communities, prevent illegal land occupation, and uphold the regulations set forth by the land law of the area. The Mondulkiri Provincial Authority has taken measures to ensure that the registration of communal land of the Pnong community is carried out smoothly and without any hindrances.
