MPWT Warns Vehicles Not to Travel on Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has announced that it will not allow any type of vehicle to travel on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway under the pretext of avoiding interference with the construction process and other accidents during travel. This is according to the announcement of the ministry on 12 July 2022.

To avoid disrupting the construction process, which must be completed on time as planned and to avoid any accidents during the trip, the ministry has decided to close all entrances and exits. No vehicles are permitted to use the expressway, except for vehicles that are used for the project and the vehicles that have the necessary requirements and only with the permission of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

The ban is due to construction is not yet being complete, and because violators of the ban have caused many accidents on the highway, especially recently. A traffic accident occurred on 11 July.

It should be noted that the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway project has a length of 187.05 km, starting construction on 22 March 2019. This road connects Village 1, Sangkat Samrong Krom, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh to Village 1 Sangkat. No. 3, Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk Province.

This road was built by PPSHV Expressway Co., Ltd and a subsidiary of China Road Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and technically inspected by MINCONSULT SDN. BHD. It will take 48 months to build and is expected to cost nearly US$2 billion.
