Nearly 2,000 Local Associations and NGOs Registered in Cambodia Since 2015

Since the enactment of Cambodia’s Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations in August 2015, a total of 1,961 local associations and NGOs have officially registered with the Ministry of Interior, according to Dr. Touch Sokheak, Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, in a recent statement to Apsara News on 30 September 2024.

Dr. Sokheak detailed that these registrations include 1,133 associations and 828 non-governmental organizations, a figure that highlights the active role of civil society in Cambodia over the last decade. Furthermore, he confirmed that many organizations and associations continue to seek registration under the ministry’s mandate.

Notably, in September 2024, the ministry registered 22 new organizations, comprising 13 associations and nine NGOs, showcasing a steady influx of groups aiming to engage in Cambodia’s social and development landscape.

Alongside these new registrations, the ministry also removed 15 associations and NGOs from its records in the same month, reflecting an ongoing regulatory oversight to maintain active and compliant organizations.
