New Draft Investment Law to be Submitted for Government Approval Next Week

The long-waited draft of the new investment law will be submitted for government approval next week after the respective ministries completed compiling new inputs with the updated situation in Cambodia.

HE Sok Chanda Sophea, Minister attached to Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), said that the draft will be submitted to the government’s plenary session to discuss on 9 July.

The new investment law is expected to help attract new investment and retain existing ones.

The government started drafting the new investment a few years ago by gathering inputs from the private sector and development partners. Given so, the new law has been carefully drafted to balance the priority goal of increasing revenue collection with embracing long-term business and attracting new investment.

Regarding this matter, international economists have advised that for Cambodia to achieve maximum economic growth potential, the nation has to simplify domestic rules and regulations. (Read more)

By doing so, when the pandemic eventually subsides, Cambodia will become even more competitive in the region, especially given the fact that some neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Myanmar are experiencing political turmoil.
